My wife and I just attended today a fantastic tour at the Occidental Arts & Ecology Center:

The tour was enormously informative and entertaining. They have a huge cultivation area where they grow all kinds of beneficial plants and trees, with both nutritional and medicinal applications. At the same time, they integrate some permaculture concepts and composting techniques.

The OAEC has Wednesdays as Volunteer Day where anyone can come unannounced and help out while learning fascinating gardening methods. If you arrive at 10am then you can enjoy a yummy, free lunch made with food grown from their lands.
